|What You Can and Cannot Eat withIgA Nephropathy?IgA nephropathy is a kidney disorder that occurs when IgA¡ªa protein that helps the body fight infections¡ªsettles in the kidneys. After many years, the IgA deposits may cause the kidneys to leak blood and sometimes protein in the urine. The following is detailed diet plan for IgA Nephropathy.
1. Limit water and salt intake. Patients with serious edema, high blood pressure and little urine, should have diet without salt. Daily water intake should be no more than 800 to 1200 liters and do not eat food rich in sodium such as pickles, vegetables pickled in soy sauce, salted eggs, preserved bean curd and tuber mustard.
2. Vitamin E can reduce the protein in urine. Therefore, the patients should increase the foods high in vitamin E in their daily diet such as green leaf vegetables.
3.Low-protein diet: because the metabolic of protein such as creatinine, uric acid will be discharged by kidney. For IgA Nephropathy patients, their renal function is damaged, this waste products can not be well discharged by kidney and accumulate in body and causes poisoning. So patients should take low-protein diet to relieve the burden to kidney. Besides, they should also take high-quality protein diet which not only meets the nutrient requirement but also reduces the waste product of protein.
4. High quality and low amount protein intake
Such metabolic products of protein as urea nitrogen are excreted by the kidneys. Thereby, to decrease kidney burdens, IgA Nephropathy sufferers are advised to restrict protein intake carefully. In some cases, with positive treatment, if kidney function can be improved, swelling decreases and urine output increases above 1000ml, patients can gradually increase protein consumption.
